The package has a window so you can see the granola inside the package, and I admit, it was an unplanned purchase, but I couldn’t resist trying such a yummy looking granola. I poured a bowl of granola, added milk, and dived right in. The mix has the right crunch, and the raisins are fresh, moi,st and very tasty. But, the further I got into my bowl of granola, the more I noticed an odd taste…it reminded me of eating something that’s past the expiration date, and so I checked the expiration date stamped on the bag, and found the date was still in the future.
Curious about the origin of the unusual taste, I attempted to test each of the granola components, and discovered that the thick, crunchy, yellow flakes were the source of the taste. According to the ingredients list, the flakes are made from corn, and I’ve never really tasted corn cereal or granola products with that unusual taste before.
The distracting flavor of the flakes seems to take away from what would otherwise be a perfect granola/cereal mix. I need to get another bag and see if the taste persists. Have you tried this cereal? What do you think?
