A couple of years ago, General Mills announced a manufacturing change that allowed them to make some of their most popular cereals gluten free. Hooray General Mills!! Among the cereals that are now available as gluten free are Cheerios, Chex, and Lucky Charms. According to the gluten-free product guide on the General Mills website, the types of Cheerios available as gluten free include: Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, and Multi-Grain Cheerios. I have found, in my local Walmart some additional Cheerios flavors that were also labeled as gluten free, such as Blueberry, so perhaps they do manufacture additional flavors as gluten-free from time to time. The important thing to do would be to double-check the box to make sure that it is clearly labeled as gluten free.
In this post, I will give you my review of both the Honey Nut and also Multi Grain Cheerios, and I can tell you that they are both fantastic. Honestly, I could tell no difference between the Cheerios that were not gluten free, and those that now are. Whatever manufacturing change they did to enable them to make these cereals didn’t change the taste or the quality at all, in my opinion.
I’m grateful that a major cereal company has such a great lineup of gluten-free cereals! Have you tried them? What do you think? Let us know in comments.
